Presentation: The Payment Integrity Shake-Up: Taking AI in a Human Direction

Date/Time: Thursday, November 20, 2025, 2:45 – 3:45 p.m. CST

Location: Ryman Ballroom A

Presenter: Spencer Young, MBA, Chief Executive Officer, MedReview

Synopsis:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally changing healthcare fraud detection and payment integrity processes. The benefits and insights created through AI are undeniable. The most advanced AI models, though, cannot replace human knowledge in the complex and oftentimes ambiguous decision-making inherent in interpreting the clinical information that is a necessary component of FWA programs. A Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) approach to AI integrates human expertise with AI automation to maximize the accuracy, quality, and efficiency of FWA and payment integrity processes. By blending AI with human clinical oversight and accountability, HITL represents the most effective and ethical path forward for advancing AI-driven fraud detection. In this session, attendees will learn about the limitations of an AI-only approach to FWA and how HITL drives more accurate outcomes and greater quality.
